The best Ryan Gosling performance of last year barely got noticed because its lighter than air. In “Crazy Stupid Love” Gosling switches from lady’s man and mentor to love-lorn Steve Carell to mentee and temporary nemesis when Gosling’s character falls hard for Carell’s daughter played with effervescent wit by Emma Stone. Carell still in “Office” mode and full tic-sterics is effortlessly upstaged by Gosling doing a down scale John Krasinki salute in their scenes together. It’s fun watching Gosling’s trademark blushing smile gathering nuance with each modest plot twist. The whole romp gets a crazy, stupid, lovely B.
