Captain Kirk is not amused with the Darth Vader like control JJ Abrams has acquired with the directing of both the new Star Trek and Star Wars movies.  William Shatner in an interview with Briank Enk of Movie Fanatic says Abrams “He’s being a pig.   He’s collecting the two franchises and holding them close to his vest.” There is a bit of sour grapes to Shatner’s comment.  Abrams promised Shatner  a significant cameo in the 2009 Abrams directed Star Trek reboot, but could not make the appearance cut together because  “It didn’t feel quite right” Abrams noted in a 2008 interview with AMC.   “The truth is, the story that we were telling required a certain adherence to the ‘Trek’ canon and consistency of storytelling. It’s funny — a lot of the people who were proclaiming that he must be in this movie were the same people saying it must adhere to canon. Well, his character died on screen. Maybe a smarter group of filmmakers could have figured out how to resolve that.”  Still, the two remain loyal frenemies and some times dine with each other.  Shatner sagely noticed “I think it’s time for J.J. and I to have another sushi and let me put him straight on two of the largest franchises … and not employing me in either one of them I think is just foolhardy.”  So is Kirk due to become a Jedi Master some time soon?
