A recent article on Yahoo Movies (read it here) has the Benedict Cumberbatch admiration society fracturing into self-respecting Cumberfans and a group of female fans that refer to themselves as Cumberbitches.  The Cumberbitches which have their own Twitter account, and actively defend the use of the name will not get the satisfaction of hearing Cumberbatch say their name in public anytime soon.  In an interview with the Times of London, Cumberbatch refers to them as Cumberwomen or Cumbergirls saying “It’s not even politeness. “I won’t allow you to be my b—-es. I think it sets feminism back so many notches. You are… Cumberpeople.”  Naomi Roper, a Cumberbatch fan and the webmaster for fan site Cumberwatchweb also takes umbrage to the Cumberbitches term.  In an interview with Yahoo movies, Roper explained that the whole thing got misconstrued when Britain’s Alan Carr show displayed their Twitter account on air. “The media loved the name and started to apply it to all of Benedict’s fans,” she told Yahoo! Movies.  Roper’s site is noted for its gentility and respect for the actor’s private life, essentially focusing on discussions of the Cumberbatch oeuvre and his talent as an actor.   Apparently, A good man makes for good fans.
