Parkland Trailer Tries to Show the Many Truths Behind the JFK Assassination

parklandWith the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination coming up on November 22nd and conspiracy theories about the event abounding, being adopted, abandoned and then re-examined every day, it is not so unusual for Parkland to take the Rashomon approach and examine the assassination from different points of view. Parkland Hospital in Dallas is where Kennedy died– also Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby, the assassin and the vigilante who killed the assassin. The surreal redundancy is history’s sad little joke in the face of tragedy and where every historian, journalist and conspiracy theorist goes to first to find the meaning and truth.  So Parkland delivers the truth through Abraham Zapruder (Paul Giamatti), the amateur cinematographer who shot the most examined 26 second piece of celluloid ever, the young doctor and chief nurse on call that shift (Zac Effron and Marcia Gay Harden), the head of the Dallas Secret Service (Billy Bob Thornton), Oswald himself (Jeremy Strong), his brother (James Badge Dale) and his mother (Jacki Weaver). The movie is adapted from Four Days In November by Vincent Bugliosi, the attorney-turned-author who, in his former profession, put Charles Manson behind bars in the Tate-LaBianca murders.
