Illustrator Keith Christensen, is known for his Marvel-ous costume concept art for Thor, The Avengers, and also Man of Steel.  His latest project is The Amazing Spiderman 2.  His Electro concept art has a special charge to it, pun intended.  Still, the man is a talent.  Christensen next assignment is the Fantastic Four reboot.  I can’t wait for those!

Total Recall Plastic Surgery (585 x 298)

Did you ever wonder what would be the side business for Batman between villain down time?  It would be a business called B. Wayne Lighting Solutions.   How About Mr Miyagi from the Karate Kid?  Miyagi’s Wax On, Wax Off Car Waxing and Detailing.

Invasione Creativa, an Italian graphic design firm, came up with a series of 27 business cards for fictional characters starting their own business.  The result is a lovely pictorial ode to some of our favorite movies.  The only downer in the whole pack is the misspelled “Lebowsky Carpets” (should be “Lebowski”).  Enjoy and let me know your favorites in the comment section.

The not so age old question of who will win in a fight between Star Wars and Harry Potter is kind of sort of put to rest in this very funny YouTube video made by RackaRacka.  The action in this amateur video is better than it has any right to be.  The “arms” technique between wand and light saber is amusingly spot-on.  There is even a genre bending twist ending.  And the winner is… well, you will have to watch the video.

The Mondo Gallery Pop Up Modok Head Announces the new Mike Mitchell Marvel caricatures show

The Mondo Gallery Pop Up Modok Head Announces the new Mike Mitchell Marvel caricatures show.

When Marvel stars licensing its superhero stock to Mondo, the art poster division of the Austin based Alamo Draft House cinema chain, Marvelous things are created.   This time around Mondo assigned creation duties to portraitist Mike Mitchell and the result is an interesting look into the faces of Marvel superheroes and villains in the art show Mike Mitchell X Marvel X Mondo.

Mitchell gained some fame for his “Just Like Us: comic caricatures that mainly referenced the Universal Monsters universe. You can find them here.  A remnant of more than 12 Marvel-ous former creations made it into the Mondo show which opened on April 25th and runs through May 17th at the Mondo gallery in Austin, Texas.  The base of the show is an over 50 semi-serious portrait to the faces of Marvel.

In his artist statement for the show Mitchell says, “My love for Marvel Comics was an integral part of growing up. Not just the comics, but the action figures, video games and cartoons. My intention with this show was to take those characters out of their action-oriented world and give them a moment of silence to catch their breath. There’s a humanizing quality to that which I find extremely interesting. This has easily been the most ambitious project I’ve ever taken on, and it’s due in part to my love for their universe; which is fictional by definition, but real in my mind and in the minds of others.”

orgasm

What happens when you get over 20 women and their staid boyfriends in Katz’s Dinner, the lower East Side New York eatery made famous in When Harry Met Sally?  Mass orgasms break out.  It has to be the pastrami.

The comic flash mob troupe and prank collective Improv Everywhere is responsible for this wave of ecstasy.  Everyone not involved in the stunt gave them an appreciative Standing O.

‘I Have a Dream: Martin Luther King Jr. Addresses the Peeple’ Washington Post 2014 Peeps Diorama Winner

Now that Peeps have finally gone big screen with the announcement that Adam Rifkin (Detroit Rock City) has optioned the right to make the marshmallow treats into a movie, it is time for other candy giants to get their cinematic due.

Here are my picks for the next big sugary film adventure:

swedish fish 2

5.  Swedish Fish.  Sweden and Fish= a corner on the serious existential foreign film market and the budding Christian cinema revival.  The world needs more downer cinema with an uplifting message that balances consumption, digestion and elimination with a solid kick of wine and happy sea life flowing in an endless ocean of sweetness.   Besides how else can they explain that green fish is not lime, but pineapple flavor, while yellow is a lemon-lime flavor (according to a Food Network expose)?  The inevitable American remake will be called Finding Nemo 2.

4.  Sour Patch Kids.  Sour. Sweet.  Gone.  The Sour Patch kids slogan makes for a great horror movie tagline.  Besides these candies film creepy no matter what commercial they are in.  They make for the perfect gore sidekick next to Jason, Leatherface, Freddy or Michael Myers.

Pez

3. Pez.  The tie-ins in from Star Wars, Disney and Marvel are already in place.  Pez is the only candy that can offer both an Avengers and Justice League sequel in the same movie.  Think of the neat weapons that a Pez dispenser can be turned into!  Perhaps they can be folded into the next Transformers sequel?  Please Lego Movie dynamic duo of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller jump on this before the Russo brothers or JJ Abrams do!

th

2. Gummy Bears, Worms and Brains.  Disney already did the Bear version a few years back, but no one has done anything with worms and brains.  They reek of all kinds of horror possibilities.  Personally Paranorman 2 is an ideal fit for these gelatinous nasties.  Also a Frankenstein reboot offers significant brain and organ employment opportunities.   Animal varieties beg for a Jumanji fit.

M&MBanner

1. M&M’s.  The M’s already have a huge following.  Their commercials have the female M’s pushing off their unsuspecting male counterparts onto voracious and curvy chocaholics, being smuggled in car trunks to be diced and sprinkled onto ice cream to the joy of a European drug czar speaking in a fiendishly subtitled Slavic language, and are lovingly cooked to death by an admiring Glee cast member.   There are  over 14 years of plot lines to be pulled from the commercials.   The world wants to love and eat them, which makes the M’s perfect for a Zombie Apocalypse take-off like World War Z.  Brangelina can star as the scientists that must prevent a world wide milk chocolate melt down.

Ghostbusters is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a 4 city art roadshow that starts on April 19th and runs through July 27th.  First off will be NYC  hosting the exhibit between April 19-26, then LA from May 17-June 1, then Chicago June 20-22, with the finale being hosted at San Diego Comic Con July 23-27.  The NYC Leonard Street exhibition is just a few blocks from Hook and Ladder No. 8, the Tribeca firehouse that was that was Ghostbusters head quarters.  The roadshow is a joint venture with Gallery 1988 and Sony Pictures.   More than 70 artists have created original paintings, sculptures, prints and apparel in homage to the 1984 box office smash, with a limited number being made available online but the bulk reserved for show-floor sales.

The Comic Con finale makes it highly likely that Sony Pictures will announce Ghostbusters 3.  The wished for sequel has been dropping directors like ectoplasm spirits hit by a proton pack.  Original director Ivan Reitman nyet, along with Lego Movie wonder-kins  Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.  The death of original star Harold Ramis and the reluctance of Bill Murray to sign-on for a third spooktacular is causing roadblocks.  Specualtion has floated on Jason Reitman, Ivan’s son to be the next in line with Jon “Iron Man” Farveau and Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors) also being considered.
