New York Robbers Stole Heist Techniques From ‘The Town

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery than the three black men who robbed a Pay-O_Matic check cashing store in Brooklyn on Valentine’s Day 2012 are big Ben Affleck “The Town”-ies. Among the things these thieves “homaged” in their robbery, according to a Daily Mail article: dressing as cops and using bleach to dry up any DNA evidence, as well as flashing a photo of the clerks house just to prove they were really really serious studies of The Town. The robbers even went to the expense of having realistic ” honky” masks created by Composite Effects who did some mask work for The Wolverine (cost 2G plus)– covering their exposed blackness by wearing gloves and cool eye shades. One of the robbers even sent the company an e-mail thanking them for the realism of the masks. They were caught when the “house” photo was traced back to the Walgreens where it was developed, the detectives able to get the perpetrator’s phone number from a copy of the sale receipt.

Navy entomologist Joe Conlon tells Business Insider that though mosquitoes did buzz around 170 million years ago, the particular species in the 1993 film (Toxorhynchites rutilus) doesn’t feed on blood.
